This policy explains what personal data we collect through thecompliancebriefing.com and The Compliance Briefing newsletter, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it.

Who we are

The Compliance Briefing is published by FCC Consulting Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16560821), registered office 3 Town Acres, Tonbridge TN10 4NG. FCC Consulting Ltd is the controller of the personal data described in this policy. Our ICO registration number is ZC172322.

For any question about this policy or your data, email michael.harris@fccconsulting.co.uk.

What we collect

When you subscribe to the Briefing

Your business email address, your name if you give it, and which form on the site you used. We ask for a business email address because the Briefing is written for compliance professionals.

When you download a resource

Your email address and the resource you downloaded. We use this to provide the download and to understand which resources are useful. Downloading a resource does not subscribe you to the Briefing.

When you send us an enquiry

Your name, email address, organisation, the service you are interested in and your message.

When you browse the site

We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read and how visitors find the site. It collects information such as the pages you visit, your browser and device type, and your approximate location, using cookies. Google Analytics only runs if you click Accept on our cookie banner. See Cookies below.

Our forms use Google reCAPTCHA to block spam. reCAPTCHA collects information about your device and how you interact with the page and sends it to Google.

The site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, which means your IP address is sent to Google when a page loads.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

  • Sending you the Briefing: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email or by emailing us.
  • Replying to enquiries and providing services you ask about: our legitimate interest in responding to you, or taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.
  • Analytics: your consent to analytics cookies.
  • Providing resource downloads, and keeping our forms free of spam and abuse: our legitimate interest in protecting the site.

We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for automated decision-making.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf, under contracts that require them to protect it:

  • Netlify hosts the website and receives form submissions.
  • MailerLite manages our mailing list and sends the Briefing.
  • Google provides Analytics, reCAPTCHA and Google Fonts.

We may also disclose data where the law requires us to.

International transfers

Some of these providers process data outside the UK, including in the United States and the European Economic Area. Where they do, we rely on the safeguards in their data processing terms to protect your data in line with UK data protection law.

How long we keep it

  • Subscribers: until you unsubscribe. After that we keep your email address on a suppression list so that we do not email you again.
  • Enquiries: two years after our last contact, unless they lead to a contract, in which case we keep records for as long as the law requires.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics keeps event data for 14 months.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct data that is wrong or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your data;
  • ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our using it;
  • ask for your data in a portable format;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it.

To use any of these rights, email michael.harris@fccconsulting.co.uk. We will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored on your device. This site uses:

  • Google Analytics (_ga and _ga_*): to count visits and see which pages are read. These last up to two years. They are only set if you click Accept on our cookie banner.
  • Google reCAPTCHA (_GRECAPTCHA): to tell people from bots when you submit a form. Strictly necessary for the forms to work securely, so it does not need consent.

We remember whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies in your browser's local storage, so we do not ask on every page.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking reCAPTCHA cookies may stop the forms from working.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page if the way we use personal data changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
